Quick Tips and How Tos
Sometimes
all you need is a quick answer on how to do something. Hopefully you
can find it here. If not, Instructional Technology is just an email
away.
Screen
Capture
If you don't have screen capture software, you can still copy an image
from your computer monitor. To do so, hold down the ALT and Print Screen
keys. The image will be copied to the clipboard. Then open up an image
editing program (such as Paint, which comes with Windows) and hold down
the CTRL and V keys to paste.
Recording
Sound
If you have a microphone, you can record your voice and create an audio
file on your computer with Sound Recorder, a free program that comes
with the Windows operating system. Sound Recorder is very easy to use.
To locate Sound Recorder on your computer, go to the Start Menu and
look in the Programs/Accessories/Entertainment directory. Recordings
will be saved as .wav files.
Internet
Searching
Tired of conducting online searches and coming up with pages that don't
seem to contain your search terms anywhere? Try this next time. While
on one of these vague pages, go to the Edit menu at the top of your
browser, and click "Find (on this page)." (You can also click
Ctrl/F). Enter a word or term in the "Find What" field and
click the "Find Next" button. The web page will highlight
instances of the words/terms you are searching for.
Simple
Video Editing
Need to create a short video or two for your students? If you have the
Windows XP operating system, Windows Movie Maker 2.1 make this process
easy, quick, and fun. Movies can be built with a few simple drag and
drops, bad shots can be deleted, and the finished product can be shared
on a CD, on the web, or through email. If you do not already have Windows
Movies Maker on your computer, it is available as a free download. Download
Windows Movie Maker.
